Despite all the fitness articles and advice out there, people still think that you have to do a million crunches and sit-ups a day just to get a six-pack. And they’re still wrong. It’s been known for decades that the way to a six-pack is through your mouth, not your abs. It’s what you eat, or, don’t eat. So if you’re looking to get that six-pack going, especially in time for summer, then stay the hell away from these following 8 foods …
White rice, white bread, white pasta – these are refined grains. Most people know by now the unrefined stuff (said list, but in the brown variety) is healthier, but what many don’t know is that people that stay away from refined grains keep less weight around their mid-section.
The New England Journal of Medicine did a study where they tracked the weight changes of more than 130,000 men and women for 20 years. The study showed that people gained an average of 3.5 pounds every four years – that’s over 18 pounds by the end of the study. And what did the researchers attribute that extra weight gain to … yup, potato chips and other potato products.
Processed meats have gotten a very bad rap as of late with the news that they cause cancer. But they also cause a loss of six-packness as well. One study showed that people who ate the equivalent of a small steak in processed meats a day, gained over 6 pounds per year.
A recent study fed monkeys two different diets, one group ate a healthy balanced one, the other, a diet full of trans fats – like those found in icing. The results? The icing eaters gained on average 7.3 percent body fat over six years, compared to only 1.8 percent by the non-icing eating monkeys. Bottom line: no more cupcakes or office birthday cakes.
Oh how sorry we are for those of you that think diet soda will keep more pounds off than regular soda. A recent study just proved that those that drank diet soda gained more than three times – that’s right THREE times – the amount of weight than regular soda drinkers. Why? The artificial sweeteners: saccharin, aspartame, sucralose – they’re poison not just for your weight loss goals, but for you too.
If you haven’t heard yet, sugar – refined sugar that is – causes inflammation. That’s swelling for those that don’t know. And the last thing you want when you’re trying to look lean and mean in the mid-section, is to be inflamed and swollen.
(For those lactose intolerant). If you’re intolerant to dairy, even in the slightest, it’ll not only cause you stomach discomfort, but bloating too. And abs just don’t look as good on those with a bloated stomach.
(For those gluten intolerant). Just like with dairy, if you have a food intolerance, like gluten – which is all too common these days – you’ll bloat. And the whole idea behind a six-pack is not to walk around with a shirt off all day long, but to look lean around your midsection, which bloating gets in the way of.
