The heartbreak of psoriasis turns out to have a few ways you can treat it without turning to prescription-only solutions. These ordinary, common-sense home remedies have been helping people for many years.
Epsom salts. Soaking for 13 minutes in a warm Epsom salt bath really helps soothe the skin. Apply a moisturizer afterward.
Turmeric. The herb that makes curries yellow, turmeric is useful both topically and in pill form for its help in resisting psoriasis flareups.
Oats. Putting ground-up oats in your bathwater turns out to be a great way to soothe your skin.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple Cider Vinegar. Either cut with water or straight, apple cider vinegar can be applied topically to your scalp in order to flight flareups.
Capsaicin. The ingredient that makes chili and peppers hot can also cut pain, redness and inflammation. It’s available as a topical ointment cream.
Meditation/Yoga. Your skin reacts to the stress you carry, and a meditation regimen can be great for stress release. The stretching involved in Yoga is also good for treating psoriatic arthritis.
Aloe Vera. Get a gel or cream that has 0.5% aloe vera, and apply topically. Studies suggest this – but not orally-taken aloe vera – is an effective treatment for psoriasis.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Omega-3 Fatty Acids fight inflammation generally, but formal studies are sending mixed signals about their effectiveness treating psoriasis specifically. You can get these acids in fish oil supplements, or from fatty fish: salmon, tuna, mackerel and sardines.
Sunlight. Just 5 to 10 minutes of exposure to sunlight helps heal psoriasis by zapping it with ultraviolet B rays. Of course, much more than that can be dangerous, so be careful.
Oregon Grape Leaves
Oregon Grape Leaves (actually an evergreen) are an effective ointment for psoriasis in cream form. Look for any cream to be made of 10% leaf.
